Study on Rebar Corrosion Monitoring and Prevention Techniques | Chapter 10 | Research Developments in Science and Technology Vol. 9

A metal steadily deteriorating as a result of chemical interactions with the environment is known as corrosion. The expenditures of construction, maintenance, and repair have a significant impact on the structure's service life. Early reinforcement corrosion is mostly to blame for the structure's failure. This paper discusses the corrosion mechanism, contributing factors, corrosion monitoring methods, and corrosion prevention strategies. The concrete can be monitored for corrosion as a useful technique to detect durability issues earlier. Linear polarisation, active monitoring with sensors, DAQ cards, impedance measurement with chips, and other monitoring approaches are available. Use of cathodic protection inhibitors, fiber-reinforced polymers, and paints with different chemical compositions are a few preventative strategies.
