Introduction of BIM Methodology in Structural Engineering Education | Chapter 2 | Technological Innovation in Engineering Research Vol. 4

The technique BIM, or building information modelling, has been adopted by the construction industry as a whole. Understanding which components of the project can change with the deployment of BIM is crucial since the structural design is a component of a construction project. There is still considerable opposition to the structural project, which is understandable given the tools for structural assessments and BIM modeling's imperfect compatibility. The research shows how BIM may be used on structural projects to enable the creation of the three necessary sequential stages: the creation of the structural model, the production of the analytical model to conduct the structural analyses, and the detail of the reinforcement. Several readily accessible programmes were utilised to assess the compatibility of BIM systems, including ArchiCAD, ETABS and Revit. The goal of this study is to evaluate the degree of trust in data transmission procedures. This study highlights the primary technique of using BIM-based tools, the primary benefits of using the methodology, and some of the drawbacks mostly brought on by the lack of effective interoperability. The paper outlines the methods used to develop two projects based on actual instances. The purpose of the study is to further the use of BIM in structural projects.
