A Review of Classification of Gastric Carcinoma | Chapter 03 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 4

 Background: Gastric cancer is the world's fifth most frequent malignancy and the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Gastric cancer treatment is determined on the stage and scope of the disease. As a result, a variety of staging methods have been developed over time in order to better understand the tumour and enhance its therapy.

Aims and Objectives: The purpose of this chapter is to help you better understand various staging systems.

Discussion: Several classification systems have been proposed over the years, including Borrman's classification from 1926, Japanese classification, Morson and Dowson classification, Goseki classification, Ming's classification, Lauren's classification, Histological classification, TNM classification, and so on. This chapter delves into all of these classifications and their key characteristics in order to better comprehend them.

Conclusion: This chapter provided insight into the numerous classifications given to Gastric Carcinoma from time to time. Every categorization had advantages and disadvantages, and each classification led to advancements in the field of surgery in terms of administration and research.
