A Brief Study on Genital Dermatophytosis | Chapter 13 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 2

Dermatophytes are a genus of keratinophilic fungi that typically cause skin, hair, and nail diseases. They are classed as anthropophilic, zoophilic, or geophilic based on their ecology. Genital dermatophytosis, tinea genitalis, or pubo-genital dermatophytosis are all terms for a superficial dermatophytic infection of the genital region. We would like to examine briefly in this review the many clinical manifestations of genital dermatophytosis, recent changes in taxonomy and nomenclature, the introduction of novel diagnostic tools, and some common dermatophytes and their sources. There are also substantial worries about the recent emergence of antifungal resistance among dermatophytes. We are also dealing with the problem of difficult-to-treat dermatophytosis. A changing lifestyle, frequent visits to the fitness club, close-fitting synthetic garments, a promiscuous culture, and the ownership of small pets such as cats and dogs are all likely contributing causes to the increased occurrence of dermatophytosis.
