A deviated nasal septum is one of the most prevalent causes of nasal blockage in adults (DNS). The gold standard method for the examination of paranasal architecture and inflammatory paranasal sinus diseases is paranasal sinus computed tomography (PNS CT), which is usually the initial diagnostic procedure in the evaluation of obstructive nasal pathologies. The study's purpose was to show that a pre-surgery computed tomography scan could assist reduce post-septoplasty problems.
In a retrospective record-based analysis, all patients with clinically proven
DNS who had surgical intervention at Khamis Mushayet General Hospital were
included. Patients' demographic data, as well as post-operative complications
and the results of a preoperative CT scan for evaluating and grading DNS, were
all gathered.
A total of 60 individuals had septoplasty
as part of DNS. The individuals who underwent a preoperative CT scan were on
average 30 years old. A pre-operative CT scan was not performed on the
remaining 30 patients to rule out DNS. The most common issue (28.3%), followed
by external nose deformity, was nasal obstruction (20 percent).
A total of 47% of patients with postoperative nasal blockage had never had a CT
scan before surgery.
A CT scan was not performed on 42 percent of patients with postoperative nasal deformity, and 33 percent of patients with postoperative bleeding and septal perforation.
Conclusions: The study concluded that preoperative CT was ineffective in alleviating nasal blockage or reducing postoperative complications.Author (S) Details
