A Case Report on Urothelial Carcinoma in the Ureteral Stump of a Nefrectomized Patient by Kidney Exclusion | Chapter 15 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 1

Urothelial carcinoma of the upper urinary tract is a rare and potentially dangerous disease. It can impact the ureter, and it's especially uncommon in the ureteral stump of a patient who has undergone a nephrectomy for benign disease. This case study describes a male patient who underwent total left nephrectomy due to renal exclusion. After three years of hematuria, he was identified with a urethral tumour of the ureteral stump and underwent ureterectomy and bladder cuff excision. The presence of a urothelial tumour in the ureteral stump is a very unusual event that is usually associated with a poor prognosis due to the delay in discovery induced by atypical presentation. The most common symptom is hematuria. Pain is uncommon since there is no renal unit and thus no hydronephrosis. Primary tumours of the ureteral stump are uncommon, but they should be recalled, and a high level of diagnostic suspicion should be maintained to avoid diagnosis in the advanced stages. The purpose of this research was to disclose an uncommon urothelial carcinoma presentation and to notify clinicians.
