Practical Realization of Three Phase Buck AC Converter Feeding Three Phase Star Connected RL Load Using FPGA Real Time Controller: Advanced Study | Chapter 1 | Emerging Trends in Engineering Research and Technology Vol. 5

A three phase bidirectional AC to AC buck converter circuit using power MOSFET is designed, rigged up and analyzed with three phase star connected RL load for electrical parameters such as output voltage, input current, input power factor, harmonic profile and efficiency using FPGA real time controller. The various PWM techniques such as ramp-DC symmetrical PWM (RDSPWM), ramp-triangular asymmetrical PWM (RTAPWM), sinusoidal asymmetrical PWM type-1 [SAPWM1] and sinusoidal asymmetrical PWM type-2 [SAPWM2] techniques are generated using FPGA real time controller in order to analyze the harmonic profile, input power factor and efficiency of the converter It is required to consider both harmonic profile and input power factor in order to increase the efficiency of power electronic converter. It is observed from experimental results that the RDSPWM technique gives lesser total harmonic distortion [THD] of output voltage and input current than other techniques. It is also observed that the SAPWM1 switching strategy gives high input power factor, more output voltage, high efficiency and moderate improvement of harmonic profile for the entire range of modulation index MI compared to other PWM techniques. Hence SAPWM1 technique is preferred for AC to AC converter than other techniques that renders easy filtration at lower cost.A

Thermal and Energy Performance Analysis of a Locally Designed Optimised Roasting Oven | Chapter 2 | Physical Science: New Insights and Developments Vol. 3

In many developing countries, biomass is the main source of energy used for cooking. In Burkina Faso, 90.1% of households use solid fuels (wood and wood products) as their main source of cooking energy, and this situation is not expected to change significantly in the coming decades. This high degree of dependence has a negative impact on forest resources. The present work concerns an experimental study of the energy performance of a prototype optimised oven developed by local craftsmen. The Water Boiling Technique (WBT) is the method used to evaluate the energy efficiency of the oven. The temperatures of the oven’s walls and the ambient temperature were measured to evaluate energy losses by convection into the environment. The oven's heat balance was used to determine the amount of energy lost through the smoke. The energy generated by combustion (QB) is calculated by taking a mass balance of the fuel (wood or butane gas, depending on the oven) before and after each experiment to obtain the mass of fuel consumed (Mc). The results showed that a large amount of thermal energy is lost through the smoke (50% of the energy generated by gas combustion). Losses through the walls were reduced to 8%. The oven's efficiency reached 42%. This is in line with the standard efficiency of optimised gas ovens (between 40 and 50%). External wall temperatures remain below 60°C, ensuring user safety and improved thermal comfort. The results show the need to optimise the oven by conducting work to reduce heat losses through smoke.

Corrosion and Inhibition Effects of Organophosphonic Solution on Mild Steel in Hydrochloric Acid Medium | Chapter 6 | Chemical and Materials Sciences: Developments and Innovations Vol. 5

The present study has been conducted on the corrosion mechanisms of mild steel and the impact of nitrilo trimethylene phosphonic (NTMP) acid as a corrosion inhibitor in a 10% HCl acidic environment. Various polymers and phosphonates have been integrated into inhibitor formulations for use in aqueous and acidic environments. The weight loss method and electrochemical techniques, including potentiodynamic and galvanostatic polarization measurements, were employed. Corrosion, though typically a long-term process, initially occurs at a faster rate, which gradually decreases over time. The above methods of assessing corrosion rates provide an average value over an extended period. Due to the versatility and low detection limits of the voltammetric methods, the researchers have developed a new voltammetric approach to determine corrosion rates immediately after some short periods like 5 min. The study presents the result of mild steel corrosion in a 10% HCl solution, with and without the NTMP inhibitor, at short intervals. It was found that the corrosion inhibition efficiency of NTMP is 93% after 24 hours. NTMP has been used as a corrosion inhibitor for the corrosion of Mild steel in acidic media found very good results. Its inhibition efficiency is 93% after 24h, thus it may be very useful for industrial applications.

The Role of a Polypill in the Primary and Secondary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in Low-and Medium-income Countries | Chapter 7 | Disease and Health Research: New Insights Vol. 7

Globally, non-communicable chronic diseases account for over 60% of disability-adjusted life years, 70% of deaths and more than 80% of years lived with disability. Cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic heart disease and cerebrovascular disease, contribute significantly to this burden. Despite a decline in age-standardized cardiovascular mortality rates worldwide, over 80% of cardiovascular disease deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, leading to substantial economic losses. In these countries, cardiovascular diseases affect the working-age population more than in high-income countries, with a significant number of cardiovascular deaths occurring between the ages of 30 and 69.

Medicaments such as aspirin, statins, and antihypertensives reduce cardiovascular events. However, low medication adherence, often due to issues like availability, affordability, and challenges within the healthcare system, compromises the effectiveness of these measures. This is a widespread problem in low- and middle-income countries, necessitating alternative approaches to address these limitations.

Objective: The study aims to provide an overview of recent research on the Polypill, a combination of drugs with fixed doses designed to prevent primary and secondary cardiovascular events. The Polypill is based on the principle of increasing adherence by reducing the number of daily medications.

Methods: The latest studies and trials on Polypill treatment for preventing cardiovascular disease, including observational studies, clinical trials, and meta-analyses have been reviewed comprehensively. Case reports and editorials have been excluded. The JBI critical appraisal checklist, which scores eight items 36 for a quick visual assessment, was used to evaluate the search results.

Results: According to the WHO Multidimensional Adherence Model, researchers have found a high rate of patient acceptability for Polypill therapy compared to monotherapy in developing nations. This acceptability is associated with better outcomes, no increase of adverse effects if compared with monotherapy, and a significantly lower mean annual pharmaceutical expenditure per patient.

Overall, using the Polypill in low- and middle-income countries increases the number of years patients live and their quality of life compared to a combination of individual components.

Conclusions: Combining multiple active ingredients in a single dosage form could be a significant advancement in preventing cardiovascular conditions. However, thoroughly assessing all factors involved and creating a well-planned development strategy is crucial to increasing the likelihood of success. This study emphasizes the dual challenge posed by the global health burden of cardio- vascular disease and the barriers to effective prevention and treatment, especially in low—and middle-income countries. Addressing these challenges could substantially improve public health outcomes and reduce the economic burden of non-communicable chronic diseases.

Assessing Efficiency and Value Chain Performance in Rice Production: Insights from Bobonaro Municipality, Timor-Leste | Chapter 3 | Business, Management and Economics: Research Progress Vol. 6

The objective of this article is to evaluate the efficiency and performance of the rice production value chain in Bobonaro Municipality, Timor-Leste. Agriculture plays a key role in Timor-Leste's development and social progress by occupying and sustaining the majority of the population. The domestic production of rice is totally destined for domestic consumption; it is insufficient to guarantee the supply of the basic food needs of the population, either for reasons associated with production reductions resulting from climatic adversities or by the constant decrease in productivity, or also by the increase in the population. The method used is the mixing method (quantitative and Qualitative) and primary data was sourced from 200 rice producers in one municipality, namely Bobonaro. The Data Envelopment + Analysis (DEA), Tobit, and Regression were estimated. The results showed that the production scale presented increasing returns of about 96%. Only 3% of the sample surveyed showed an efficient scale, and about 1% presented a production scale with decreasing returns. A comparison of the six most efficient and six least efficient rice producers in Bobonaro, focusing on the output of the rice agri-food value chain. The results of multiple linear regression analyses show that the model has a degree of adjustment of 60,63%, and the model is statistically significant. The estimated coefficients are statistically significant for land, seed, capital, and IR8 variety. There are many factors that influence the decision-making of producers when selling their rice products. Rice distribution chains operate through various channels, including traders, companies, wholesalers, retailers, and agents. A significant portion of value seekers prefer to buy in traditional and modern stores, suggesting an opportunity for value chain participants to redirect their efforts to meet modern retail standards. The actors in the value chain, especially producers, need a good policy from the government of Bobonaro municipality to improve the quality attributes of their rice fields, aligning their practices to the specific needs of consumers.

Photovoltaics in Micro Grids through Distribution Networks | Chapter 4 | New Horizons of Science, Technology and Culture Vol. 1

A micro grid is defined as a series of electrical loads, elements of generated power supply and storage elements that, connected to the electric grid by means of a single point of connection, are all linked through a strategy that manages both the flow of energy within the grid as well as the interchange of power with the main supply grid. First, a micro grid is an integration platform for local generation, storage and demand, all placed within a local distribution grid. Local generation is typically found at low voltage levels, and it is generally known as microgeneration due to its low scale. Photovoltaic systems are frequently integrated into microgrids, which are controlled local electricity distribution networks that serve both electricity consumers and renewable energy producers. a microgrid, and it was seen that there are four main characteristics that must be present in every microgrid. A microgrid is an integration platform for distributed generation and loads; it can work either in grid-connected or islanded  mode; it is characterised by active operation; and it can be found in multiple scales. Then, the electrical power grid layers and the potential benefits   that microgrids can provide to both the main grid and consumers were  identified. Among these benefits, higher resiliency, efficiency and modularity were found.

From fundamental definitions to modelling and control of AC and DC microgrids to the use of adaptive protection in microgrids, this course covers a wide range of topics related to DC and AC microgrids. The study will help gain knowledge of a number of topics pertaining to microgrid implementation and technology, including markets, distribution network types, smart grid and virtualpower plants, control strategies, and componentry. Among the components, the power electronics interface operation and control receive particular attention. The study will shed light on the DC microgrids' benefits and drawbacks.

Conversion of Waste Heat Energy of Internal Combustion Engine into Electricity by Using Thermoelectric Generator | Chapter 1 | Engineering Research: Perspectives on Recent Advances Vol. 6

Heat engine converts chemical engines available in the fuel to useful mechanical energy. One of the most famous heat engines is the internal combustion (IC) engine. IC engine plays a pivotal role in transportation and other industrial applications. A lot of waste heat is rejected from a typical IC engine as the conversion efficiency of this type of engine is only about 35-40 %. The average temperature of the exhaust system of a typical IC engine is in the range of 300°C to 500°C. The waste heat has the potential to be tapped and converted into useful energy. This can help to increase the performance of the IC engine system. A thermoelectric generator (TEG) can be used to recover the waste heat from the IC engine to electrical power. It can convert directly thermal energy into electrical energy. This work focused on the conversion of the waste heat energy of the IC engine into electricity by using TEG. The aim of the project was to demonstrate the applicability of TEG to convert waste heat from exhaust to useful electrical energy. A test bench was set up to experiment and obtain the power output from TEGs from waste heat recovery from an IC engine. Two TEGs were individually tested to attain the electrical characterization and also tested on series and parallel connections. The thermocouple wires were connected to gain the reading of the temperature at the exact points. The study showed that the series connection of TEGs has improved and increased voltage generation but the parallel connection is more reliable. The result shows that multi-TEG in the system gave the best result of electrical characterization compared to individual TEG. The system proved that waste heat recovery using TEGs has tremendous application in IC engines for better and higher efficient engine performance. TEG was able to receive 80.1°C of maximum hot temperature and 58.1°C of cold temperature supplied by air cooling.

Characterization and Modeling of ZnO/CdS/CdTe Heterojunction Thin Film Solar Cells | Chapter 1 Engineering Research: Perspectives on Recent Advances Vol. 2

At present, amorphous silicon solar cells have the largest market share in the world, with less than a fraction of one percent for CuInGaSe2 and about a few percent for CdTe cells. The benefit of using CdTe is primarily due to its direct bandgap material with high absorption (in relationship with silicon) and the ease of device processing, which can be deposited on glass in thin film typically a few micrometers and at low temperatures. This study intends to discuss the characterization and modeling of CdS/CdTe heterojunction thin-film solar cells for high-efficiency performance. Device simulation is employed to analyze the current-voltage efficiency performance of CdTe/CdS photovoltaic solar cells. Key limiting factors, including the back-contact Schottky barrier, its relationship to doping density, and layer thickness, are investigated. Additionally, the effects of surface recombination velocity at the back-contact interface and the inclusion of an extended CdTe layer are evaluated. The experimental base CdS/CdTe device used in this study demonstrates an efficiency of 16–17%. Through simulation analysis under the AM1.5 solar spectrum, optimization strategies for the experimental device are explored. The results indicate that enhanced efficiency can be achieved by incorporating and optimizing an extended CdTe electron reflector layer at the back of the Schottky contact. Specifically, an extended electron reflector region with a barrier height of 0.1 eV, a doping density of 7x1018 cm-3, and an optimal thickness of 100 nm yields a maximum cell efficiency of 19.83%, outperforming the experimental data.

A Novel Approach to Determining the Turbine Discharge at Hydropower Plants with Adduction Channel | Chapter 9 | Engineering Research: Perspectives on Recent Advances Vol. 3

Discharge is one of the most important parameters that characterize the operation of a hydroelectric power plant. Traditional methodologies determine the discharge of a high-head hydropower plant by the Gibson method, by exploring the velocity field through a penstock section (current meter method). Nevertheless, it is much more comfortable and advantageous to measure the discharge in a downstream section, at the immediately following hydropower plant, but in this case, it is necessary to know all the phenomena that occur in the tailrace channel between the two hydropower plants and to establish the measurement conditions so that the discharge estimation be within the limits imposed by the standards in force. This paper aims to determine the turbine discharge at Retezat HPP by measuring the discharge to the turbine from the HA1 in Clopotiva HPP.

Optimal Partial Diallel Cross Plan and Its Constructions | Chapter 9 | Research and Applications Towards Mathematics and Computer Science Vol. 8

In this chapter, a new method of constructing a partial diallel cross plan using the two blocked (equal block) and unblocked (unequal block) balanced incomplete block designs d1 and d2, and each design has two sets of parameters m1, m2, and n1, n2, where S0 ≥6 with parameters v,b,r,k and λ, is proposed. In plant breeding operations, diallel crossings are employed to explore the genetic characteristics of inbred lines. Using the linear model, estimated only the general combining ability effects. The crosses were taken based on the design parameters, and each cross occurred only once in constructing the partial diallel cross plan. When the number of lines (v) increases, the efficiency factor (Ep) and efficiency factor (E*) per cross will increase. The constructed method is also illustrated with a suitable example. The MS-optimality criterion is significantly more straightforward than traditional criteria since it allows for algebraic findings in an area where different criteria are typically only evaluated numerically, design by design.

A Theoretical Analysis of the Economics of Efficiency, Bargaining and Welfare Distribution | Chapter 1 | An Overview on Business, Management and Economics Research Vol. 8

This chapter develops a joint analysis of efficiency and distributional issues in an economy in general equilibrium with a focus on bargaining under bounded rationality. We propose evolutionary schemes representing bargaining, where each step of the bargaining process identifies who is willing to make a concession depending on the relative perceived cost of bargaining failure. Our analysis relies on evolutionary strategies based on the Nash-Harsanyi bargaining model, but we go beyond the Nash-Harsanyi model by generalizing it with ordinal preferences as well as allowing for inefficient bargaining agreements. We show that our evolutionary schemes converge to bargaining agreements under general conditions. The analysis covers the case where the bargaining agreement is inefficient as well as the case where the bargaining process converges to an efficient allocation located on the Pareto utility frontier. We show that the outcome of the bargaining process can be represented by the simple maximization of a “generalized Nash product.” We explore the implications of bargaining agreements for income distribution. Finally, we discuss our model’s insights in analyzing the performance of an economy, emphasizing the roles of preferences, decentralization, and public goods. In the presence of strong linkages between threat points and welfare distribution, the design and implementation of conflict resolution mechanisms need further investigations.

Impact of Temperature on the Effectiveness of Solar Photovoltaic Panels | Chapter 5 | Research and Developments in Engineering Research Vol. 3

The present study learns the power output and effectiveness due to hotness increase by experimental method. Future strength sources will generally come from solar energy. Many instruments are used to collect solar energy and revolutionize it into usable forms of strength. The promising technology for changing solar radiation into electrical strength is solar PV (photovoltaic) panels. The prejudiced portion of solar energy may be convinced into electricity staying in the form heat energy. Solar PV panel acting varies with hotness increase. The PV panel hotness has effect on power and voltage. Due to increase of hotness, the photovoltaic solar cells effectiveness may be cut down. Additionally, the panel's lifespan will be diminished. This study used an experiment accompanying a 50W solar PV panel in a absolute outdoor environment to analyze how heat strength from solar radiation in the form of temperature influences the efficiency of cosmic panels.

Efficiency of Marketing Systems of Cassava in Southeast, Nigeria | Chapter 4 | Emerging Issues in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 6

The aim of the study search out examine the effectiveness of the marketing structures of cassava in Southeast, Nigeria. The study objectives search out view global cassava result, access cassava result and shopping in Nigeria, and examine the shopping systems and allure efficiency in Nigeria. Nigeria is the top builder of cassava, accounting for 20% of the worldwide total of 303 million tonnes of cassava result in 2020. Democratic Republic of the Congo and Thailand were other main cassava growers in the world. Worldwide cassava result reached over 291 heap tons in 2017, with Africa bearing more than 60% of that total. State-level cassava result in Nigeria is ruled by the South-South States of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Delta. About 70% of the total cassava result in Nigeria is produced in Ogun, Ondo, and Oyo in the South-West and Enugu and Imo in the South-East. However, prices for cassava in Nigerian markets disagree from State to State and for the different by-amount of cassava, including cassava vigor, cassava flour, cassava money, garri (eba), akpu (fufu), and abacha (bobozi/flakes). Cassava flour costs middle from two points 250,000 and 350,000 naira per ton, cassava vigor costs between 300,000 and 450,000 naira per heap, and cassava chips cost approximately 60,000 naira per ton. The study focal points the abundant stakeholders in cassava shopping, including builders, distributors, retailers, consumers, and processors. Efficiency in cassava shopping systems supports effective price buildings and encourages cassava worth chain processes.

Multifunctional Device for Measuring and Monitoring Parameters of a Photovoltaic Module | Chapter 12 | Research and Developments in Engineering Research Vol. 4

In this work, analyzes of existing devices for measuring the current-voltage characteristic were carried out in order to compare several devices. The purpose of this work is to develop a device for measuring the current-voltage characteristics of photovoltaic modules and the environmental factors affecting them. The paper discusses a system for monitoring solar module parameters that measure air temperature, module temperature, solar radiation, wind speed, current-voltage characteristic, maximum power point (MPP), efficiency, and fill factor (FF) and stores the data in a computer. The system is constructed around a programmable microcontroller with an analog-to-digital converter built in. The suggested system's program code also includes an algorithm for determining the maximum power point of the solar module. Because every parameter are taken into account automatically and written to the computer in the form of tables, the system performs all measurements in real time and is simple to use.  In order to compare the suggested monitoring system with alternative commercial measuring equipment, the research looked at their properties. The proposal includes a circuit diagram for a monitoring system as well as an electrical circuit to measure current-voltage characteristics.
