Association between Farmers’ Profile Characteristics and the Effectiveness of Televised Farm Broadcast Programmes in Andhra Pradesh | Chapter 2 | New Horizons of Science, Technology and Culture Vol. 8

Television is the most powerful audiovisual medium, evolving from its humble beginnings in 1936. In today's world, it has grown into a huge network for mass information and mass entertainment. As an effective medium of mass communication, television plays a crucial role in the agricultural sector, making proper planning and execution of farm broadcast programmes essential for bringing about desired changes in agricultural communities. The present study was taken up to investigate the relationship between the profile characteristics of televiewing farmers and the effectiveness of farm broadcast programmes. The study was conducted in Andhra Pradesh using an ex-post facto research design. Out of the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, four districts were selected randomly. Two mandals from each district and two villages from each mandal were selected randomly. After listing out the total number of farmers who have television sets, 15 farmers from each village were chosen by a simple random sampling method; the total sample size became 240. The primary data were collected by using a pre–tested interview schedule. To convert the data into meaningful findings, statistical tools such as the Correlation coefficient (r) and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) were used. The findings indicated that, out of sixteen profile characteristics selected, thirteen, viz., age, education, farming experience, socio-economic status, innovativeness, mass media exposure, marketing orientation, risk orientation, economic orientation, scientific orientation, extension contact, social participation and training exposure had significant relationship with the effectiveness of farm broadcasts. The other profile characteristics such as farm size, annual income and cropping intensity, did not show any relationship. The MLR analysis found that all 16 profile characteristics of televiewing farmers put together explained about 78.64 per cent variation in the effectiveness of farm broadcasts. The remaining 21.36 per cent is due to the extraneous profile characteristics, which were not considered under study. The profile characteristics, namely socio-economic status, mass media exposure, risk orientation, economic orientation, scientific orientation, extension contact and annual income were found to be positively significant at the 0.01 level of significance. The variable social participation was found to be positively significant at the 0.05 level of significance. This study concludes that farm broadcast programmes provide a comprehensive understanding of agricultural technologies and effectively supplement knowledge gained through training programmes. Due to its audio-visual component and comprehensive nature, the effectiveness of farm broadcasts increases with increasing training exposure. Future studies may include additional profile characteristics like achievement motivation, management orientation, previous knowledge, production orientation, planning orientation, price situation, input accessibility, etc., which are likely to affect them and which are beyond the present study, and may also be studied.

Assessment of Aflatoxin Biocontrol Strategies Implemented by Private Sector Entities for Managing Aflatoxin Contamination in Nigerian Agricultural Systems | Chapter 8 | Research Perspectives of Microbiology and Biotechnology Vol. 7

Aflatoxins are toxic compounds produced by several Aspergillus species that contaminate various crops. The impact of aflatoxin on the health of humans and livestock is a concern across the globe. Income, trade, and development sectors are affected as well. There are several technologies to prevent aflatoxin contamination but there are difficulties in having farmers use them. Several Aspergillus species can produce aflatoxins, however, A. flavus is the most common causal agent of contamination and therefore of global interest. In Nigeria, an aflatoxin biocontrol product containing atoxigenic isolates of A. flavus has been registered with regulatory authorities and is now being produced at scale by the private company Harvestfield Industries Limited (HIL). The current study reports results of biocontrol effectiveness trials in maize conducted by HIL during 2020 in several locations across Nigeria and compared to untreated maize from nearby locations. Farmers and farmer-field selections were carried out in collaboration with the lead farmers from MAGPAMAN and Agricultural Extension Agents (AEAs) of the Agricultural Development Project (ADP). Biocontrol application was conducted in fields across the six geopolitical regions of Nigeria during the 2020 cropping season, which spans from April to October. Also, maize was collected from open markets to assess levels of contamination. All treated maize met tolerance thresholds (i.e., <4ppb total aflatoxin). In contrast, most maize from untreated fields had a higher risk of aflatoxin contamination, with some areas averaging 38.5 ppb total aflatoxin. Maize from open markets had aflatoxin above tolerance thresholds with even an average of up to 90.3 ppb. For the biocontrol treatment comparisons, means were separated using paired Student t-tests. Results from the trials were presented in a National Workshop attended by key officers of Government agencies, farmer organizations, the private sector, NGOs, and donors. Overall, we report (i) efforts spearheaded by the private sector to have aflatoxin management strategies used at scale in Nigeria, and (ii) deliberations of key stakeholders to ensure the safety of crops produced in Nigeria for the benefit of farmers, consumers, and industries. With improved, refined strategies, aflatoxin management programs will surely result in reduced aflatoxin contamination and exposure in Nigeria and elsewhere.

Energy Savings through Retrofitting Waste Heat Recovery System on Bulk Milk Cooler | Chapter 9 | Theory and Applications of Engineering Research Vol. 5

This study highlights about energy savings through retrofitting waste heat recovery system on bulk milk cooler. Various types of heat exchangers are being used for recovering waste heat in which tube in tube type are the most common. Bulk milk coolers are used to chill the milk from its harvest temperature of 350C to 40C to arrest the bacterial growth and maintain the quality of harvested milk. Milk chilling practices are energy intensive with low coefficient of performance (COP) of about 3.0. Increased energy cost concern encouraged an investigation of heat recovery from bulk milk cooler as one conservation alternative for reducing water heating cost in dairy industry. Heat dissipated to atmosphere through condenser is recovered to improve the energy efficiency of plant. The waste heat is utilized to heat the water which is used to clean the milk processing equipment’s thus saving thermal or electrical energy used to heat the water separately. Shell and coil type heat exchanger is designed and used to recover the waste heat during condensation process. Heat rejected in condensation process consists of superheat and latent heat of the refrigerant. In this work, attempt has been made to recover complete superheat along with part of latent heat which is a present research issue. Various types of heat exchangers are being used for recovering waste heat in which tube in tube type are the most common. The results show that complete superheat and 35% of latent heat is recovered. Heat recovery rate is measured for various mass flow rates. Water is flowing on shell side and refrigerant through tubes. The effectiveness of the heat exchanger is determined and the results achieved are presented in this paper. Significant improvements have been achieved and COP of the system is increased from 3 to 4.8.

After conducting trials on the experimental setup developed in the lab, it is found that there is significant energy saving & performance enhancement as a whole system. This is implemented as a pilot project in field on one of the bulk milk cooler of a dairy plant in Maharashtra, India which is satisfactorily working with good results and less ROI.

The purpose concerning this study is to explain in what way or manner Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Targeting Eating Behavior (CBT-TEB) was applied and to evaluate the therapy's short-term efficiency in lowering abdominal corpulence and body mass index (BMI) in routine first-contact medical care settings. Obesity is a weighty public health issue and associated with an raised risk of cardiovascular disease events and humanness. The risk of cardiovascular complications is directly had connection with excess frame fat mass and ectopic fat dethroning, but also other corpulence-related complexities such as pre-type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea, and non-alcoholic greasy liver diseases.A screening inquiry was given to consecutive sufferers and after that a fitness dialogue, blood pressure and skin glucose check were offered. Eighty- three bodies aged 18-69 age consented to participate in the CBT-TEB invasion. Inclusion criteria were the combination of intestinal obesity and BMI ≥ 25. Primary outcome measures were changes from criterion to six months after end of remedy in waist circumference (WC), midriff-to-hip ratio (WHR), pressure, and BMI. Changes in eating behaviours: cognitive limitation eating, poignant eating and uncontrolled consuming. Obesity related psychosocial problems in addition to patients´ and group rulers´ experiences of the CBT-TEB programme were also evaluated. Pulse, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, high-bulk lipoproteins (HDL-C), low-density lipoproteins (LDL-C) and triglycerides were calculated.Mean reductions after six months (total sample, last attention carried forward): WC 4.8 (sd 7.0) cm, WHR 0.027 (sd 0.04), weight 4.4 (sd 4.9) kg, BMI 1.6 (sd 1.8) kg/m2. Mean reductions afterwards six months in therapy completers: WC 5.5 (7.3) cm, WHR 0.031 (0.05), weight 5.0 (5.0) kg, BMI 1.8 (1.8) kg/m2. Cognitive limitation eating raised and uncontrolled eating, touching eating and obesity-accompanying psychosocial problems decreased considerably during remedy. Patients´ experiences of the therapy surpassed their expectations. Group leaders´ knowledge were positive. After a brief training ending, it was possible to redistribute CBT-TEB in primary care using precinct nurses and health educators as group leaders. Both cases and staff replied favorably to the treatment. The CBT-TEB program's temporary success in reducing pressure and abdominal obesity in subjects receiving first-contact medical care was pleasing and seems expected superior to the majority of different reported CBT-located programs.

Maximum Work and Efficiency of an Irreversible Regenerative Stirling Cycle | Chapter 12 | New Trends in Physical Science Research Vol. 1

On a stationary irreversible regenerative Stirling cycle model, the effect of two sources of irreversibilities (limited rate of heat transfers and heat leak) is investigated. The purpose of this study is to figure out how to get the partial optimization criterion specified in [1]. Because when two design rules are used alternately: internal thermal conductance fixed, or regions fixed, the ideal relations for the allocation and efficacy of the heat exchangers of the Stirling power plant are established. These optimal relationships are the same for optimum particular power and efficiency. By inserting these optimal values in the specific power and efficiency, for example, the greatest specific power and efficiency can be found. When the maximum efficiency and specific power are evaluated, it is observed that the maximum efficiency is greater than the maximum particular power under both design rules. When the design rule is bound by the set areas of the heat exchangers, the efficiency is higher.

Determining the Influence of the Number of Passes in the Shell and Tubes Condenser Thermal Performance Using R134a Refrigerant and Applying the Concepts of Efficiency and Effectiveness | Chapter 01 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol. 1

The article studies the effect of the number of passes in a shell and tubes condenser heat exchanger, with an entrance pressure of R134a refrigerant in the shell equal to 1.2 Mpa, utilising the concepts of efficiency and effectiveness. The tubes are filled with water or a water-based nanofluid containing a proportion of aluminium oxide nanoparticles (Al2O3). The methods utilised divide the heat exchanger into three sections: overheated, saturated, and subcooled. The major metrics used to evaluate the heat exchanger's thermal performance were efficiency and effectiveness. The efficiency of superheated steam is close to 1.0. However, there is room for improvement in terms of thermal efficiency, which can be enhanced by additional tube passes. For lower mass flow rates of the fluid in the tube, the saturated steam region approach is effective, but for higher mass flow rates of the fluid in the tube, it is inefficient. Despite this, it is highly effective at high mass flow rates. There is lots of room to enhance efficiency in the subcooled area. Even yet, the fluid inlet temperature in the pipe and the work refrigerant pressure limit more heat exchange in the subcooled area.

Government Expenditure on Education: How Effective and Efficient is It? | Chapter 4 | Modern Perspectives in Economics, Business and Management Vol. 8

The goal of this research is to look into and examine the efficiency and efficacy of local government education spending at the district and municipal levels in East Java from 2007 to 2014. Furthermore, the impact of local government spending, household education spending, and the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) on the educational outcome, namely the education index, is examined in this study.

The methodology for measuring the efficiency of local government expenditure on educational results was chosen as Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Constant return to scale (CRS) and variable return to scale (VRS) were assumed in the model (VRS). Panel data regression was used to calculate the effectiveness of government spending. The current study employed data from 38 districts and cities in East Java from 2007 to 2014 to support the analysis. The findings revealed that government spending on education is generally wasteful. Government Education Expenditure (PPP) had no significant impact on the educational index, however Household Education Expenditure (PPRT) and GRDP per Capita had a positive significant impact (IP). This suggests that government spending on education is ineffective in raising educational standards.

Effectiveness of Selected Interventions on Reduction of Holistic Symptoms and Prognosis of Patients with Head and Neck Cancer in a Selected Hospital, Kanya Kumari District | Chapter 6 | Highlights on Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 17

This study looked into the impact of a few therapies on patients with head and neck cancer's overall symptoms and prognosis. With random sampling technique, a quasi experimental pre-test post-test design was used (random allotment of weeks: Group I-patient admitted in 1st and 3rdweek and Group II patient admitted in 2ndand 4th week). A total of 200 patients were included in the study's sample (100 patients in Group I and 100 patients in Group II). Both groups of patients received interventions: Group I received counselling (day 1 and day 7), financial support, and oral care for 6 days (1-6 days), and Group II received counselling (day 1 and day 7). (day 1 and day 7), 6 days of cash assistance, oral care, and music therapy (1-6 days). Both groups had a pretest on the first day and a posttest on the seventh day. Data was gathered utilising a structured questionnaire and an interview schedule to analyse socio-demographic and clinical information. Check for physiological, psychological, and spiritual symptoms with this 20-item symptom checklist. To determine the severity of pain, use the universal pain evaluation scale. Tool for evaluating sleep, blood pressure, and pulse rate, as well as other physiological parameters. To assess the quality of life, a modified University of Washington quality of life questionnaire with 20 divisions was created. The standardised radiation mucositis scale is used to determine the severity of the ulcer. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used in the analysis. Group II received music therapy and experienced a significant reduction in physiological symptoms (Mean score on day 7 is 11.20 and paired ‘t' test 20.638, P value 0.001) and psychological symptoms (Mean score on day 7 is 13.82 and paired ‘t'test 14.296, P value 0.001) compared to Group I (Mean score on day 7 is 13.82 and paired ‘t'test 14.296, P value 0.001). (Group II Mean score on day 7 is 3.32 and Group I Mean score on day 7 is 6.49, F test 167.395, P value 0.001). Oral care combined with music therapy had an impact on oral mucositis (on day 1, 62 percent of Group II participants had ulceration, whereas no one had ulceration on day 7). The patients in Group II had a longer average mean sleep duration (Mean score on day 1 is 4.13, day 7 is 4.41) than those in Group I. (Mean score on day 1 is 4.41 and on day 7 is 7.02). This indicated that music treatment increased sleep duration in Group II patients. Patients in Group 1 (day 1: 26.6, day 7: 29.44) and Group 2 (day 1: 29.44, day 7: 51.74), F test 16.48, P value 0.001. It reveals that music therapy had a greater impact on patients in Group II's quality of life than patients in Group I. The ANCOVA F value for Group I (Day 1 7.76 and Day 7 6.28), Group II (Day 1 6.28 and Day 7 2.51) is 1098, P value 0.001). This demonstrated the efficacy of music therapy in lowering pain. As a result, the study found that music therapy, in addition to counselling, financial support, and oral care, considerably reduced holistic symptoms, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pain, and oral mucositis, as well as greatly increased sleep length and quality of life.

An Illustrative Experimental Investigation of a Nanofluid (Al2O3+H2O) Based Parabolic trough Solar Collectors | Chapter 7 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol.4

In the present work the effect of working fluid (Al2O3 + water nanofluid) on the efficiency of a parabolic

trough solar collector was investigated experimentally. The weight fraction of nano particles was 0.1%

and the particles dimension was 40 nm. Experiments were performed with and without nanofluid. The

mass flow rate of nanofluid is constant at 2 Lit/min. The results shows that, nanofluid based parabolic

trough collector has higher efficiency than water based parabolic trough collector. For 0.1%, the

increased solar thermal efficiency was nearly 7%. From the results, it can be concluded that the

nanofluid causes an enhancement in heat transfer coefficient by 32%. The paper presents the

preparation of nanofluid, calculation of nanofluids properties, test result and performance evaluation of

Parabolic Trough Solar Collectors with and without nanofluids.
