Considerations Regarding the Effective Management of Projects for Sustainable Rural Development in Africa | Chapter 1 | Contemporary Research in Business, Management and Economics Vol. 3

 This book chapter is based on a study that primarily focuses on the effective management of projects for sustainable rural development in Africa. Rural areas are territories that lie outside the urban areas and are largely characterized by low population density, sparse settlements and agriculture as the major economic activity. There has been a shift in development focus to rural areas mainly due to the realization that rural areas can no longer be neglected given that rural and urban areas have become critically interdependent. Attendant to this has been the phenomenon of many development agencies increasingly turning to projects as a critical wheel upon which sustainable rural development can be realized. However, many projects that are meant for rural development do not succeed to fulfill this goal for which the projects are designed and implemented. This article is partly based on an empirical study that explored challenges of managing rural development projects with reference to 4 case studies that were conducted in Vihiga County of Kenya in 2016. This article takes a qualitative approach. Secondary data from various journal articles and research reports that were purposively selected were reviewed. Document review was the main data collection method while data analysis was done using content analysis. According to this study, there are several obstacles that prevent traditional stakeholder participation models from being gainfully utilized, including a lack of project management expertise, a failure to apply project management principles, and inherent challenges that prevent not only rural development projects, but all other projects from promoting the critical development for which they are designed and carried out. This article also finds that there is an alternative stakeholder-participation model as well as various approaches that can be applied to enhance effective management of rural projects. The study finds that people participation - or more specifically, stakeholder participation - is an approach in project management when and if well applied, can enhance success in rural development projects. This article recommends that projects ought to be managed by professional project managers as a key variable of ensuring that value for investment in development projects is attained. The alternative recommendation is that all non-professional project managers should be trained on the basic skills, tools and techniques of project management.

Study about Project Leadership in Nigeria: Panacea for National Economic Development | Chapter 10 | New Innovations in Economics, Business and Management Vol.1

 To demonstrate the people who should be in charge of project execution and to investigate the role of project leadership in Nigeria's economic development. Nigeria has an abundance of natural and human resources. It's perplexing to hear that countries with a single source of resources or endowments have an advantage over those with a diverse set. It's a result of self-gratification, or individuals pursuing their own personal interests, and it's linked to poor leadership. This article looks at the link between project leadership and national economic development and productivity in Nigeria. The study explains how leadership and human management, with their unlimited power of wants and needs, play a key role in fund allocation, as well as how productivity and project execution. Why, with so many human and natural resources, do we still have infrastructural deficits, no developmental projects, a people's mindset that opposes national progress, rising unemployment and insecurity, power outages, and finally, a consuming nation? Project managers or a leader who possesses the traits or potentials of a project manager may be the people who can design a practical and suitable system. The study focuses on Nigeria's primary concerns and the role of excellent project leadership in overcoming these problems. The distinctions between a project manager and a project leader are the paper's key conclusions. The report states that if the project managers' system is implemented and handled, Nigeria will become the world's top economy, particularly in the area of developmental projects for productivity and effective management.

Modeling Alignment of Software Projects Needs with Software Project Teams’ Needs: It is a Balancing Act | Chapter 10 | Current Topics on Mathematics and Computer Science Vol. 1

 Due to the fastpaced, competitive world in which information and communication technology (ICT) projects are run, as well as ICT professionals' constantly evolving requirements, project managers face a challenge in aligning project requirements with project team members. A project client measures project success by how well a project manager meets project goals, whereas software project teams (SPTs) measure project success by a manager's ability to meet their project-related needs. This chapter claims that if project requirements are properly aligned with team members' requirements, a balanced decision approach will result. Furthermore, such alignment will result in the realization of SPTs' needs as well as meeting the needs of the project. The chapter presents a Software Project Needs and Software Project Team Needs (SPnSPTn) alignment model and argues that using the SPnSPTn alignment model can result in a balanced decision that meets both the software project's and team members' needs.

Waste Data Processing Algorithm and Data Collection Integration System (DCIS) in Singular Construction Activities for Aiding the Quantification of Overruns in Construction Process | Chapter 14 | Advanced Aspects of Engineering Research Vol. 7

 Project delays wreak havoc on the construction industry, threatening the economies of governments all over the world. There are several studies on the causes and effects of construction delays, but remedies that were meant to offer the results of this phenomenon (such as lean construction) are not being implemented on a large scale. One explanation for this is that delays are generated by time wastes at activity levels, which are rarely addressed in scholarly investigations. Managers rely heavily on experience-based heuristics to determine the duration of activities. Construction activities, on the other hand, are prone to highly unlikely and complex process flows, rendering heuristics unreliable. The reason for this is that there is a slim chance that one project's construction site conditions and stakeholders will be comparable to the next. As a result, the project management expertise obtained may not be useful in projecting actual project durations and costs in the future. The only viable option would be to establish cost and timing guidelines for individual building operations based on the entire history of projects and employees involved. Globalizing, or at the very least nationalising, heuristic data on delays and wastes might aid in the prediction of future processes in the long term. It is possible to achieve this by demonstrating a method for centralising the construction process into a single data entity at the national level—the Data Collection System (DCIS). Every time a new construction process is activated anywhere inside the DCIS area, the system performs a synchronisation of people and construction site data. The epicentre of this data centre will be the collection of inventory data, material data, labour data, stakeholder data, delay data, time waste data, and so on. The information gleaned via heuristics should then be transformed into mathematical distributions that may be used to forecast future development sites. As the data entering process progresses, this will result in better and better results.

Performance Measure of Project Management Automation Tool Based on DevOps Selection Criteria for a General Purpose Software System Development: Advanced Study | Chapter 9 | Emerging Trends in Engineering Research and Technology Vol. 6

DevOps, a cluster of tools to automate the tasks of building, testing and releasing the software, intends to optimize the end to end delivery lifecycle of software by eliminating the bottlenecks of each and every stage of development. This research paper presents the performance measure of different tools in the project planning and management phase of software development. Diverse tools exist for each and every phase of the development and depending on the outcome of the evaluation or selection criteria, tool with highest score is being chosen. This paper measures the performance of alternative project management tools viz. Jira, Trello, Leankit, AgileCraft based on these evaluation or selection criteria.
