Proposal of an Automated Schema to Generate a Complex Password by Employing the Genetic Algorithm | Chapter 3 | Science and Technology - Recent Updates and Future Prospects Vol. 8

Due to the occurred increasing in information sharing, internet popularization, E-commerce transactions, and data transferring, security and authenticity become an important and necessary subject. During recent years and yet now the terms of security, data integrity, authenticity are very concern, whereas in order to authenticate users of any service that is worked online, the authentication of password is used. In this paper an automated schema was proposed to generate a strong and complex password which is based on entering initial data such as text (meaningful and simple information or not), with the concept of encoding it, then employing the Genetic Algorithm by using its operations crossover and mutation to generated different data from the entered one. The generated password is non-guessable and can be used in many and different applications and internet services like social networks, secured system, distributed systems, and online services. The proposed password generator achieved diffusion, randomness, and confusions, which are very necessary, required and targeted in the resulted password, in addition to the notice that the length of the generated password differs from the length of initial data, and any simple changing and modification in the initial data produces more and clear modification in the generated password. The generated password cannot be remembered, so that the application of such password is as a master password, which is saved in a file after it was generated and it is used in user specific configuration data for access the server, also it can be distributed among the users who share information and data, it can also be used for barcode generation for commercial field. The proposed work was done using visual basic programing language.

Introducing a Technique for Searching Data in a Cryptographically Protected SQL Database | Chapter 1 | Mathematics and Computer Science: Contemporary Developments Vol. 1

In recent eras, storing and processing data on third-party remote cloud servers has been widely used, showing explosive growth. The growing popularity of data outsourcing to third-party cloud servers has a downside, related to the serious concerns of data owners about their security due to possible leakage. The desire to reduce the risk of loss of data confidentiality has become a motivating start to developing mechanisms that provide the ability to effectively use encryption to protect data. However, the use of traditional encryption methods faces a problem. Namely, traditional encryption, by making it impossible for insiders and outsiders to access data without knowing the keys, excludes the possibility of searching. This paper presents a solution that provides a strong level of confidentiality when searching, inserting, modifying, and deleting the required sensitive data in a remote database whose data are encrypted.

The proposed SQL query processing technique allows the DBMS server to perform search functions over encrypted data in the same way as in an unencrypted database. This study also offers a basis for implementing the solution on the server side of the Oracle DBMS using unmodified DBMS software using our own developed persistent stored modules (PSM). This is achieved through the organization of automatic decryption by specially developed secure software of the corresponding data required for search, without the possibility of viewing these data itself. We tested our prototype on a single machine that simulates both a proxy and a database server. At that, we guarantee the integrity of the stored procedures used and special tables that store encrypted modules of special software and decryption keys, the relevance and completeness of the results returned to the application. The results of the analysis of the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed solution show that the proper privacy of the stored data can be achieved at a reasonable overhead. Future studies may focus on the conduct of an in-depth performance evaluation of this proposed solution, including a comparison with existing implementations, to show its practicality in various real-life situations.

Electrical Fault and Power Quality Detection Algorithms and Customer-Owned DERs Monitoring with a Cyber Grid Guard System and DLT | Chapter 4 | Current Perspective to Physical Science Research Vol. 9

In this study, the electrical fault and power quality detection algorithms and customer-owned DERs monitoring use cases were implemented, with a Cyber Grid Guard system and DLT. Electrical utilities continue to deploy more intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) inside and outside electrical substations, and are associated with customer-owned distributed energy resources (DERs). Data from these IEDs, such as power meters and protection relays, must be kept confidential and of high integrity. Blockchain technology has the potential to increase microgrid resilience by enhancing data sharing security. The growing use of IEDs and customer-owned renewable energy sources (DERs) may make it necessary to connect Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) with power system applications. We implemented the electrical faulted phase detection and power quality monitoring algorithms with a Cyber Grid Guard (CGG) system using DLT. In addition, the DERs (wind turbine farms) use case and protective relay cyber-event tests were assessed, by using the CGG system with DLT. In the experimental model, the testbed was created by using a real-time simulator and CGG system with power meters/ protective relays in the loop. The data collected from the CGG system and IEDs were compared with the same time stamp source. These results showed the successful assessment of protection, control and monitoring applications using a CGG system with DLT. In the future, power system applications for the ESGT with DERs and the CGG system will be based on executing smart contracts between electrical utilities and customer-owned DERs.

Prevalence of the Vulnerability to Coastal Erosion: Case Study of Saint-Louis City | Chapter 1 | Novel Perspectives of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences Vol. 4

The coastal areas of Senegal are increasingly affected by climate change and Anthropogenic activities. Accelerated Sea level rise is actually resulting in serious processes of coastal erosion with huge environmental and socioeconomic damages. The city of Saint-Louis is particularly sensitive to coastline retreat as the phenomenon has become recurring with significant impacts along the “Langue de Babarie” sand spit. That particular area is undergoing huge losses of human settlements even if solutions have implemented and affected populations temporally relocated inland. People and economic activities are therefore threatened by coastal erosion. The ongoing urbanization has deeply disturbed the natural sedimentary transit of the coastal area as such practices like sand beach extraction induces serious sedimentary imbalance. Human and environmental security in this coastal part of the country becomes an emergency, given the high vulnerability to marine submersion. Facing coastal erosion should be therefore based on sustainability rather than technical solutions.  This paper is aimed at analyzing population’ behavior to the various coastal protection measures put in place by local authorities.

Electronic Security System for Agricultural Field | Chapter 02 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol. 10

Agricultural field security is critical today. Threats to agricultural fields can come from a variety of sources. Producers must be mindful of the danger of crop loss or contamination that is done on purpose. Safe medications can be used to make dangerous or harmful mixes if they are used inappropriately or indiscriminately. Chemicals and bodily harm are two examples. The farmer must defend the field against all acts of deliberate destruction. A method has been created to protect the crop in the field. The technology developed will help in detecting and, in many situations, preventing intruders into agriculture fields. It's a fencing system that not only detects but also chases stray animals out of the field.
