Introducing a Technique for Searching Data in a Cryptographically Protected SQL Database | Chapter 1 | Mathematics and Computer Science: Contemporary Developments Vol. 1

In recent eras, storing and processing data on third-party remote cloud servers has been widely used, showing explosive growth. The growing popularity of data outsourcing to third-party cloud servers has a downside, related to the serious concerns of data owners about their security due to possible leakage. The desire to reduce the risk of loss of data confidentiality has become a motivating start to developing mechanisms that provide the ability to effectively use encryption to protect data. However, the use of traditional encryption methods faces a problem. Namely, traditional encryption, by making it impossible for insiders and outsiders to access data without knowing the keys, excludes the possibility of searching. This paper presents a solution that provides a strong level of confidentiality when searching, inserting, modifying, and deleting the required sensitive data in a remote database whose data are encrypted.

The proposed SQL query processing technique allows the DBMS server to perform search functions over encrypted data in the same way as in an unencrypted database. This study also offers a basis for implementing the solution on the server side of the Oracle DBMS using unmodified DBMS software using our own developed persistent stored modules (PSM). This is achieved through the organization of automatic decryption by specially developed secure software of the corresponding data required for search, without the possibility of viewing these data itself. We tested our prototype on a single machine that simulates both a proxy and a database server. At that, we guarantee the integrity of the stored procedures used and special tables that store encrypted modules of special software and decryption keys, the relevance and completeness of the results returned to the application. The results of the analysis of the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed solution show that the proper privacy of the stored data can be achieved at a reasonable overhead. Future studies may focus on the conduct of an in-depth performance evaluation of this proposed solution, including a comparison with existing implementations, to show its practicality in various real-life situations.

TargetSNPdb: A Database of Preliminary Analysis Data of the Impact of nsSNPs on Drug Targets, Drug-metabolizing Enzymes, and Disease-associated Genes in Humans |Chapter 10 | Recent Developments in Chemistry and Biochemistry Research Vol. 7

Aims: Non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs) are variations in DNA that can affect protein structure and function and are known to cause various diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. For instance, changing glutamic acid to valine in the hemoglobin beta gene leads to sickle cell anemia. nsSNPs found in genes associated with drug targets or drug-metabolizing enzymes can influence how individuals respond to drugs and their susceptibility to certain diseases. Understanding nsSNPs is essential for comprehending how genetic variations impact protein functionality and contribute to disease onset, which is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment decisions. Using computational tools to analyse protein sequence and structure data significantly increases the prediction efficiency of the impact caused by these nsSNPs.

Methods: The analysis results obtained from several computational tools (such as SIFT, PolyPhen, AutoDock, and GROMACS) relevant to the study of the impact of amino acid residue substitutions were integrated into existent information records from the literature and genetic association databases. These tools enable the combination of results from a variety of different approaches to evaluate the potential impact of nsSNPs on protein function.

Results: We have developed TargetSNPdb, a comprehensive database that contains computational predictions of the structural and functional impact of nsSNPs in human protein-coding genes, including drug target and drug-metabolizing enzyme-encoding genes.

Conclusion: TargetSNPdb provides nsSNP data, disease associations, and drug information. Molecular modeling helps understand genetic variations, drug responses, and diseases. Potential applications of TargetSNPdb include prioritising nsSNPs for association and experimental studies.

Research Inventory of Undergraduates at Rundu Campus [A Cross-sectional Exploratory Case Study to Understanding the focus of Research at a University of Namibia Satellite Campus] | Chapter 11 | Contemporary Research in Business, Management and Economics Vol. 8

Since its existence, the Rundu Campus of the University of Namibia hasn’t created a simple and accessible database of undergraduate student research. This is the first cohort to undertake their undergraduate Research in part fulfilment of their course requirements. In subsequent years, this number of students undertaking Research would invariably grow due to the increased enrolment across all three faculties. Taking a longitudinal (2016 – 2021) exploratory content analysis, this research compiled a primary database of research topics (N=256) to understand the areas of research interest students have been focusing on over this period. Over 40% of the Campus research targets students as subjects of research while the campus research is largely interpretative (13.1%), exploratory (13.3%) and seeking to evaluate the knowledge (28%) of students across a large spectrum of health, education, and business-related issues. In the field of academia, it is important to know the different research titles done by the students so they can have an inventory. Also, already researched titles should not be repeated as students and faculty are guided on what research is necessary to be done every year. The study recommends extending future research beyond just the “Research Topics’ to cover a full breadth of Campus research work up to their conclusions and recommendations. Furthermore, the study recommends the Campus academic society do more than merely study “students” and cover broader socio-economic aspects within the Kavango East region for impactful and relevant scholarship. Since the challenges of research mapping are perennial (year-in-year-out), it would be helpful for future researchers to apply different methodologies or approaches like action research which provides an opportunity for observing evolving research dynamics in real time.

Detection of Deceit Using Speech and Thermal Videos During Interactive Sessions: An Integrated Analysis | Chapter 10 | Advances and Challenges in Science and Technology Vol. 4

This study reduced on the use of interrogation visual and audio entertainment transmitted via radio waves and thermal imaging to label deception. In the study, a real-life table has been generated by constituting a real corruption of stealing scenario. During the questioning process the thermal broadcast and audio records have been carried out together in a concealed tone. The police area has long used polygraphy as the gold standard for storyteller detection. In due course, various contemporary methods for lying or deception discovery have emerged that are more correct and straightforward. One of ruling class is the analysis of thermal television. Thermal footage is written during an interrogation and following examined to expect signs of lying. Additionally, it is attainable to assess a person's performance from the audio record, which maybe a crucial hint for uncovering deceit. The temperature of the brow and periorbital areas is culled to measure the blood flow rate. It was observed that either of person the one is lying, the temperature of these regions increased in addition to those of truth-tellers. Analysis of the talk of the subjects was also completed activity to understand the distinctness in the pattern of speech attributes of storytellers and truth-tellers. It was found that storytellers take more silent pauses and have taller values of the help out their voice when they were being interrogated. Finally, we have combined the effect of thermal television and audio study for decision making.
