Lightning is a unaffected Phenomenon that occurs in the air when charge accumulated in the cloud discharges into a neighbouring cloud (cloud to cloud or sometimes inside the cloud) or cloud to the ground. Lightning causes more deaths than added natural accidents. Also, it affects the efficiency of the power system. Unless the correct protection plan is not in place, the damage to the capacity system equipment is meaningful. Understanding the characteristics of bolt is important for crafty and testing electrical supplies that is unprotected to lightning strikes. By simulating the belongings of lightning strikes, manufacturers and controllers can ensure that electrical supplies is able to bear the high voltages, currents, and added transient effects precipitated by lightning, and function safely and dependably under such environments. In this Chapter causes of lightning, effect of lightning on the capacity system, production of lightning drive in laboratory for testing the extreme voltage supplies and methods to check the lightning are studied.
