A Comparative Overview of Laparoscopic and Conventional Open Appendicectomy | Chapter 3 | Current Progress in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 5

This division outlines the outcomes of laparoscopic appendicectomy distinguished to open conventional appendicectomy in a after second care set up with aim to corroborate advantages and defects of both processes. Appendectomy for acute appendicitis is individual of the most frequent clues for emergent abdominal abscission. An important physical landmark for surgeons operating appendectomy is the convergence of the taeniae coli that marks the base of the appendix. By following ruling class inferiorly, the postscript can be located and resected.A anticipated analytical practical study was carried out in the area of Surgery Sri Aurvindo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Indore, Madhya Pradesh India from July 2014 to August 2015. A series of 80 cases above 18 age of age accompanying clinical diagnosis of appendicitis bearing Alvarado score of seven and above were studied prospectively under two together groups after decent written consent: Open appendectomy-40 cases, Laparoscopic appendectomy-40 cases. Intraoperative problems, extra diagnostic potential, operating opportunity, postoperative analgesia, examination problems, distance of hospital stay, emotional cosmesis, and return to routine, everyday ventures were all factors that were compared middle from two points the two groups. Statistics were used to analyse the principles. The median influential time in Laparoscopic Appendicectomy was 58.22 proceedings (range 32.68-85.46 min) as distinguished to open procedure which accepted 43.65 minutes (30.36-65.48min) (P<0.05). Conversion to open process was done in 10% (n=4) of laparoscopic cases. Mean advantage of postoperative pain by optic analogue scale was reduced in Laparoscopic Appendicectomy (LA) compared to Open Appendicectomy (OA) (P<0.05). Mean post-active stay (3.2±0.34 days versus 2.3±0.24 days) and surgical site contamination was recorded in 10 victims (25%) in OA group and 5 (13.9%) in LA group (P<0.05).It is concluded that laparoscopic appendectomy is a reliable and effective means for treating severe appendicitis. It has the advantages of improved event-abdominal visualisation for supplementary pathologies, lower post-operative melancholy, and better cosmesis, but at the cost of high arrangement and maintenance costs that must eventually be covered by the patient or the institution.
