Study on Blast Resistant Structure Using Steel Hollow Sections | Chapter 2 | Technological Innovation in Engineering Research Vol. 5

The influence of blast loads on structures has evolved into a crucial issue that must be taken into account throughout the design and planning phase as the frequency of terrorist strikes has grown in recent years. Due to the rarity of terrorist strikes and the fact that they are man-made disasters, blast loads—like those for earthquakes and winds—are carefully estimated. This investigation's objective is to evaluate the accuracy of blast load simulations used in non-linear dynamic response analyses of blast-damaged trussed structures. In both the architectural and structural design processes, this paper covers theories for designing blast-resistant structures as well as ways to increase building security against explosive impacts. Steel hollow sections are used as structural components because they can bend dramatically and nonlinearly to absorb blast energy. In this paper, key ways for enhancing a structure's capacity to provide protection against blast impacts are explained using both an architectural and structural approach.
