Review on Story Stability of a Structure | Chapter 9 | Research Developments in Science and Technology Vol. 7

A load-bearing narrow beam is known as a column. The failure pattern of a column is affected by a variety of factors such as buckling, compression, shear, and tension. Early faults in a column diminish the column's deflection and load bearing capability. In order to ensure stability, fundamental technical criteria such as connection and stiffness dictate the effective length and breadth of the members. The researchers conducted a number of in-depth examinations of important engineering elements using a variety of loading patterns. Under varied loading patterns, more study was done to predict lateral stiffness, inter-story displacement, and deflected beam shape. The current study looks at a variety of literatures related to effective length and regulating characteristics that affect structural stability.
