Like many rare illnesses, porphyrias and reproduction are poorly understood. There is a lack of knowledge on pregnancy problems in porphyria patients. The information we gather comes from handling certain instances. The case study that follows describes a rare instance of porphyria cutanea tarda in a 30-year-old female patient who arrived to the emergency room of the Government Medical College in Nagpur with severe anaemia after giving birth to a stillborn child elsewhere that same day. Known pregnancy complications in people with porphyria include stillbirths, spontaneous abortions, hypertension, and low birth weights.
