Case Study on Chikungunya in an Infant | Chapter 7 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 12

The current case study emphasises the impact of chikungunya on a baby. The chikungunya virus, which is a member of the Togaviridae family of the genus Alpha virus, is the agent of the arboviral illness chikungunya. The illness is spread by the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitos. Virus genetic adaptation and mosquito climate adaptation, which both promote increased infectivity and transmission, are the fundamental drivers of epidemics. The majority of people who contract chikungunya recover completely. The indiscriminate use of corticosteroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDS), particularly aspirin, which can cause thrombocytopenia, gastrointestinal bleeding, nausea, vomiting, and gastritis, increases the risk of death.
