Study on Quality of Life of Patients with Lichen Simplex Chronicus | Chapter 2 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 11

Patients' emotional and functional well-being are impacted by the skin ailment lichen simplex chronicus (LSC). It has been associated to severe itching, restless sleep, anxiety, and depression.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate how LSC affects patients' quality of life (QoL) using the Dermatology Life Quality Index, a standardised dermatology-specific QoL measure (DLQI).

190 outpatients with LSC have been included in the current QoL research. It is part of a bigger LSC research effort. Demographic information and disease-related characteristics were gathered in addition to the DLQI questionnaire. Participants who used antidepressants or had mental conditions were prohibited. The DLQI is made up of ten questions (Q1 to Q10) grouped into six domains.

The LSC-patients had an overall DLQI score of 8.58 3.348. LSH therefore has a little impact on patients' quality of life. Patients' responses to questions 1 (symptoms), 9 (sexual problems), and 10 (therapy) were all substantially high (p 0=001). Patients' Quality of Life and disease-related (duration and stage) as well as socioeconomic (urban/rural and educational level) variables could not be shown to be significantly correlated (p=0.194). High score for Q10 (therapy) (median 2.00, range 1.00-2.00) (p 0=001) was specific to our patients. This is the first study of its sort to be conducted in our nation, and its objective is to ascertain how LSH affects patient QoL in both male and female patients. In ordinary clinical practise, the DLQI has shown to be a straightforward and efficient questionnaire strategy.
