Third Molar Surgery with a Smaller Impact - Small Things, Big Improvements | Chapter 15 | Highlights on Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 15

 Lower impacted third molar surgery (ITMS) is a popular treatment in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and it is frequently associated with problems such as pain, edoema, trismus, haemorrhage, nerve dysfunction, and postoperative infection. The author outlines a clinical trial including 18 participants on ITMS. This study found that using a modified incision as a less invasive technique to lower impacted third molars, combined with appropriate preoperative and surgical treatment, greatly lowers postoperative discomfort.
