Determining the Role of Prophylactic Tranexamic Acid in Reducing Blood Loss during and after Lower Segment Caesarean Section | Chapter 20 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 6

This is a prospective randomised control trial that looks at the role of intravenous tranexamic acid in reducing blood loss during caesarean delivery. From August 2018 to August 2020, the study was conducted at the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (inpatient only) of Central Hospital, South Eastern Railways, Kolkata. Our goals were to compare the amount of blood loss during caesarean section between patients who received intravenous tranexamic acid and those who received placebo (Normal Saline), as well as the amount of blood loss 2 hours after caesarean section between patients who received intravenous tranexamic acid and those who received placebo. The patients were divided into two groups based on their gender. The study found that using tranexamic acid as a preventative measure lowers blood loss during and after a lower segment caesarean surgery.
