The notion of illness management by non-chemical approaches is discussed in this chapter. Various ways, tactics, and means for managing illnesses are detailed in detail, none of which rely on synthetic substances. To comprehend the process of host-parasite interactions, a classification system is provided. The methods for breeding disease resistant varieties are briefly outlined, as well as the mechanisms for deploying the resistant variety to manage illnesses. The benefits and drawbacks of using resistant cultivars to manage illness are highlighted. The control of illnesses via cultural and biological strategies is discussed. Biological control techniques such as microbial suppression, induced host resistance, competition, hyper parasitism, antibiotic-mediated suppression, and others are described with appropriate examples. Many of these techniques may be applied in organic crop production, which is the current trend in agriculture.
