Employing Authentic Video Lectures on Mathematics for CLIL Classes at the Tertiary Level | Chapter 11 | Progress in Language, Literature and Education Research Vol. 4

At present, the ever-changing society demands require constant adaptation of educational systems to equip graduates not only with specialized competences, but also with high level of general knowledge, analytical thinking and creativity. With the growing amount of information available in the English language, it becomes necessary to develop practical skills in using it for professional communication. Taking into account the strict time limits set for undergraduate courses, integrating the study of English with students’ academic majors becomes an apparent way to a more compact material presentation and practicing. This text gives a description and detailed results analysis of experimental teaching of English to students of applied mathematics based on authentic YouTube video lectures in mathematics, which can make the basis for developing well-thought-out CLIL courses at the tertiary level.
