India is the world’s largest milk-producing country, with a 20% share in global production [OECD data, 2017]. Milk production in India differs from most countries in that more than half of the milk produced is from buffaloes1-2, followed by indigenous cows 1-2 and crossbred cows1-2,4. The majority about 97% of the 207 million buffalo population in the world is found in Asia, wherein about 20.51% are swamp buffaloes 5. Numerous factors can challenge the ability of smallholder farmers to run productive, profitable enterprises and to arrange fodder for cow and buffalo. Present paper focuses on studying the hierarchical inter-relationships amongst the various challenges faced by farmers and organisation dealing with fodder of buffalo and swamp buffaloes in India.
