A Case Report on Histiocytic Sarcoma: Lytic Lesion in Proximal Tibia | Chapter 14 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 14

Introduction: Histiocytic Sarcoma is an uncommon tumour that accounts for less than 1% of all hematologic malignancies. This tumour has biological characteristics similar to lymphoma, however its cell line is histiocytic and non-lymphoid. Following that, the malignant cell of the histiocytic sarcoma takes on the morphological and immune-phenotypic characteristics of a mature histiocyte. The World Health Organization (WHO) categorised histiocytic sarcoma inside the macrophage with other histiocytosis and stroma-derived dendritic cell malignancies in its most current 2016 revision.

A 70-year-old woman was diagnosed with Histiocytic sarcoma of the left proximal tibia, which appeared as a solitary lytic lesion with left knee pain for three months. We present an unusual differential diagnosis for a solitary lytic bone lesion with no constitutional symptoms that was treated with our own traditional approach. Conclusion: Despite the fact that Histiocytic Sarcoma is a rare bony lesion, we should be aware of its presence and do biopsy and immunohistochemistry on all lytic bone lesions.
