Determining the Effect of Wood Sawdust and Sand on the Compressive Strength and Water Absorption of Clay Pavers | Chapter 11 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol. 4

 The purpose of this research is to see how wood sawdust and sand affect clay paver compressive strength and water absorption. The authors mixed cement-stabilized clay with sawdust from various woods (limba or kambala) and various sands to make paving bricks in this study (white or crushed). X-ray diffraction was used to analyse the mineralogical composition of the clay raw material, which revealed that the phyllite fraction is primarily composed of 95 percent kaolinite and 5% smectite and/or chlorite/smectite interstratified. The compressive strengths of the mixtures "clay stabilised with 4 percent cement mixed with 4 percent kambala sawdust and 5 percent white sand" and "clay stabilised with 4 percent cement mixed with 4 percent limba sawdust and 5 percent crushed sand" were found to be higher. The water absorption rate of the paving bricks ranged from 18.1 to 20.4 percent.
