Biomedical Applications of Some Schiff Base Metal Complexes Containing Imidazole/Thiophene Derivatives | Chapter 5 | Current Advances in Chemistry and Biochemistry Vol. 9

Schiff base was produced by condensing imidazole-2-carboxaldehyde with 2-amino-3-carboxyethyl-4,5-dimethyl thiophene in a 1:1 molar ratio. Schiff base complexes of CoII, NiII, CuII, and ZnII were produced and studied. Magnetic and electronic spectrum data were used to propose the complexes' shape. The thermal stability of the compounds was determined using thermal analysis. The fluorescence spectral study of the Schiff base and its CuII complex in various solvents was examined. The grain size was determined using powder XRD measurements. The surface morphology of the complexes is depicted in SEM pictures. The antibacterial and antifungal activity were tested using Kirby-disk Bauer's diffusion method. MTT assay was used to conduct in vitro anticancer investigations on a human cervical carcinoma cell line.
