Synthesis and Characterisation of 2-Acetylbenzothiophene-Based Semicarbazone Ligands | Chapter 4 | Chemistry and Biochemistry: Research Progress Vol. 7

Two semicarbazone ligands, 2-acetylbenzothiophene-3-semicarbazone (Hbtsc) and 2-acetylbenzothiophene-4-phenyl-3-semicarbazone (Hbtpsc), were synthesised via condensation reactions of semicarbazide derivatives with 2-acetylbenzothiophene. The 2-acetylbenzothiophene scaffold was chosen because of its heteroaromatic core, which is rich in electrons and is known to improve conjugation and bioactivity. Because of their biological significance and adaptable coordination behaviour, semicarbazones are the subject of extensive research. FT-IR, UV-Vis, ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction (for b) were all used to completely characterise the ligands. Spectroscopic data confirmed the keto tautomeric form of both ligands in the solid state. IR spectra showed characteristic ν(C=N) and ν(C=O) stretching vibrations around the range of 1587-1536 cm⁻¹ and 1753-1682 cm⁻¹, respectively. Signals at δ around 10 ppm and 6–8 ppm in the ¹H NMR spectra were attributed to N–H and aromatic protons, which is in line with the keto tautomer. Electronic spectra displayed broad absorptions at 315–318 nm due to n→π* transitions. Single crystal structural analysis of b revealed a triclinic unit cell with P1 space group and two independent molecules (Z′ = 2) in the asymmetric unit. The molecules adopt an E-configuration across the C=N bond, and C=O bond lengths of 1.235 and 1.221 Å, confirming the presence of the keto form. The structure was stabilised by intramolecular hydrogen bonding and weak C–H···π interactions, which contribute to the formation of a stable zigzag packing arrangement. These structural insights provide a foundation for potential future applications in coordination chemistry and materials science.

Formation and Analysis of Cobalt (III) with a Tetradentate N,N,O,O-Donor Ligand and 2,2'-{Propane-1,2-diyl-bis[Nitrilo(E) Methylidene]}bis(6-Methoxyphenol) | Chapter 5 | Chemical and Materials Sciences: Developments and Innovations Vol. 10

For a long time, chelating agents derived from organic compounds containing N,S,O-donor as a functional group have a strong ability to form metal complexes and exhibit a variety of biological activities. A number of studies have been done on the various Schiff base complexes formed by the condensation of secondary amines with different aldehydes and ketones. Schiff bases have often been used as chelating ligands in the field of coordination chemistry, and their metal complexes have been extensively investigated due to their potential applications. It is known that reactions of N,N,O,O-donor Schiff base ligands with transition metal ions have produced a series of complexes with interesting structures and magnetic properties. A new complex prepared by the reaction of 2,2'-{propane-1,2- diyl-bis[nitrilo(E)methylidene]}bis(6-methoxyphenol) (H2L) with Co(III) ion is reported in this paper. The bicompartmental ligand acts in a tetradentate fashion. The H2L ligand is structurally characterized by elemental analysis, NMR and infrared spectroscopies, conductance and single X-ray diffraction.

The compound with Co(III) crystallizes in the monoclinic system in the space group P21/c with the unit cell parameters a = 13.168(2) Å, b = 15.795(2) Å, c = 15.882(2) Å, α = 90°, β = 110.703(16)°, γ = 90°. The cobalt (III) ion has a slightly distorted octahedral coordination geometry.

In the structure of the mononuclear complex, the Co(III) cation is coordinated by two imine nitrogen atoms, two phenoxo oxygen atoms, from deprotonated Schiff base ligand and two oxygen atoms of water. There are also neighboring two molecules of DMF and one perchlorate anion non-coordinating. The study concluded that the structure revealed tetradentate coordination of the ligand via two nitrogen atoms and two deprotonated phenolicoxygen atoms. In this complex, the central metal center is hexacoordinated. This complex is characterized by spectroscopic studies (IR, NMR), molar conductivity and X-ray diffraction.

Recent Study on Synthesis, Characterization and Bioactivity Study of Bidentate NS Schiff Base of S-Benzyl Dithiocarbazate and its Zn (II) and Pd (II) Complexes | Chapter 1 | Current Topics on Chemistry and Biochemistry Vol. 9

The another time-chelated four coordinate complexes (ML2, L = deprotonated ligand) of Zn(II) and Pd(II) ions  combined, were derived from a new bidentate NS Schiff base called S-benzyl-β-N-(4-hydroxy-3-nitrophenyl)methylene dithiocarbazate (HL), that is the condensation production of S-benzyl dithiocarbazate (SBDTC) with 4-hydroxy-3-nitrobenzaldehyde. The ligand and its aggregates were characterised using standard methods such as NMR, UV-apparent, IR, mass spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibleness measurement, and a hard bony structure in the jaws of vertebrates conductance. The projected crystal structure of the ligand was habitual by X-ray crystallography data from a alone crystal. The ligand exists in allure thione tautomeric form in both complete and solution points. The chelates were created by reacting the metal ions accompanying the azomethine nitrogen atom of the ligand and the deprotonated thiolate sulphur anion. Magnetic susceptibleness and electronic spectroscopic data submitted that the ZnL2 complex had a tetrahedral geometry, inasmuch as the PdL2 complex had a square planar makeup. Tail flick and carrageenan induced fondle edoema tests were used to assess the pain remover and anti-instigative activities of the ligand and its aggregates. When compared to the control, the ligand at 10 mg/kg caused a significant (***p < 0.001) increase in pain beginning in tail flick patterns, but it demonstrates moderate endeavor in complexes. When compared to the control, the ligand and composites significantly diminished paw edoema (***p< 0.001). Overall, these verdicts indicate that the ligand and its aggregates could be working as an effective anti-angering agent.

Role of Pyridine Containing Azetidinone Derivatives as Privileged Scaffolds in Anti Tubercular Agents | Chapter 9 | Technological Innovation in Pharmaceutical Research Vol. 11

In the current study, we synthesised a novel series of 3-Chloro-1-phenyl-4-(pyridine-4yl-)azetidin-2-one derivatives using Schiff base as an intermediary in the quest for prospective Tuberculosis treatments. The resulting Schiff base is then eliminated, resulting in named Azetidinone derivatives. Nucleophilic addition followed by elimination is the mechanism involved in the production of Schiff base. The newly produced Schiff base is then cyclized to produce novel Azetedinone derivatives. The named compounds were physically examined and structurally investigated using spectroscopic methods (IR, 1H-NMR, MASS). The chemicals Azt-1 to Azt-6 were tested for anti-tubercular activity in vitro. The Micro plate Alamar Blue Assay (MABA) method was used to test anti-tubercular activity in vitro. Azt-1(H), Azt-2(Cl), Azt-5 (O-OH), and Azt-6 (P-OH) were the most active compounds in the series compared to standards. The presence of electron withdrawing group -Cl, (Azt-2) and electron donating substituents -OH at ortho and para positions in the phenyl ring of (Azt-5) and (Azt-6) respectively could explain the potent anti tubercular activity.
