The Medicinal Importance of Hydrocotyle asiatica Linn. in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria | Chapter 8 | Recent Research Advances in Biology Vol. 8

 Ayurvedic medicine, traditional African medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine all employ Hydrocotyl asiatica (L.) as a therapeutic herb. In Nigeria, however, little is known regarding its medicinal application. In order to pick 10 marketers and 40 herbal practitioners, a multistage sampling methodology was used. Hydrocotyle asiatica water extract has anti-inflammatory and anti-filarial properties, and is used to improve memory and learning ability. Key informants in the Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria, were given questionnaires on purpose. In the end, though, just 45 were found. The questionnaire asked about the respondents' demographics, the illness they were treating, and the preparation and administration techniques. Headache, cough, scurvy, and mouth sore, fibroid, menstruation discomfort, waist discomfort, back ache, poor libido, sexually transmitted infections, and hypertension are among the ailments treated with H. asiatica, according to the findings. This herbaceous plant can be used alone or in combination with other plants including Pipper guineensis, Ocimum grandiflorum, and Allium cepa. The use of table and tea spoons helps to standardise measurement in the usage of H. asiatica. It is advised, however, that proper storage facilities be provided to prevent excessive kola dryness and pest infestation during storage. Furthermore, the species' biodiversity and biological resources, as well as those of other significant medicinal plants, should be protected so that individual plants do not become extinct.
