Thirty patients with damaged hips were treated with an uncemented complete hip replacement with a 36 mm femur head and a ceramic on ceramic bearing at a tertiary care hospital. Patients aged 30 and above were included in the trial, with the oldest patient being 75 years old. Secondary osteoarthritis of the hip joint caused by femoral head avascular necrosis was the most common reason for surgery (21 patients). Other reasons were primary osteoarthritis of the hip (3 patients), intermediate stage avascular necrosis of the femur head (2 patients), osteoarthritis following an ancient history of trauma (2 patients), and osteoarthritis following healed TB of the hip (1 patient). A thorough clinical and radiological examination was performed on the patient. All patients were directed to undertake isometric quadriceps activity eight hours after surgery. Patients were instructed to sit up and given knee bending exercises on the first post-operative day. Patients were encouraged to stand and walk non-weight bearing or partially weight bearing as tolerated on the first post-operative day. The sutures were removed on the 12th post-operative day. Five days was the average length of stay in the hospital. The follow-up period was 18 months long. Patients were assessed using the modified Harris Hip Score and the WOMAC score 12 and 18 months after surgery. None of the patients were forgotten, and they were all followed up on on a regular basis. There were no difficulties during the research period. At 12 months and 18 months, the mean Modified Harris Hip Score increased dramatically from 26.6 pre-operatively to 89.3 post-operatively and 90.0 at 18 months. The mean WOMAC score has dropped dramatically from 70.5 before surgery to 14.8 after 12 months and 14.2 after 18 months. This shows that a total hip arthroplasty with an uncemented femur head and a ceramic on ceramic bearing can yield excellent results. Total hip replacement is a long-term solution for hip pain caused by a variety of problems.
