Nowadays, traffic characteristics such as normal sections, weaving sections, and merging sections are important in evaluating traffic facilitates. Lane changing and lane utilization are important traffic characteristics that have received a lot of attention. As a result, the focus of this study is on both of these characteristics. Lane-changing behavior has an impact on road capacity and safety. The distribution of vehicles among roadway lanes is important for a variety of reasons, including safety, traffic management, and even road structural design. Field data was collected from various rural roads. There were two types of roads studied: two-lane sections and three-lane sections. The analysis of collected data shows that driver behavior in Iraq differs from that of other countries in terms of lane utilization, and the same behavior was observed for lane changes. Iraq has the lowest lane utilization and the highest frequency of lane changes when compared to other countries. These data are critical for calibrating and validating sophisticated programs like simulated microscopic programs. These data are important in simulating the reality of driver behavior on rural roads.
