Drawbacks of Audiobooks for Learning and Cognition | Chapter 9 | Current Approaches in Science and Technology Research Vol. 6

 This research looks at the nature and distinguishing features of audiobooks, as well as the impact of listening as a cognitive practice. The paper investigates and analyzes the various aspects and manifestations of audio media features, radio as a foundation for audiobooks, and radio in terms of its resemblance to ear-reading. Methods of investigation: logical approach to prior research on the evolution of radio and audio media, discursive and desktop analysis of documents, studies and monographs on the psychology of auditory perception; systematic review of research into the characteristics of radio and audio media Listening is important for learning and cognition. Three conclusions can be drawn: first, the growing popularity of audio reading materials stems from human nostalgia for “hot” media channels and primeval “orality”; second, radio is a key catalyst in the culture pyramid mediamorphoses of the “post-writing era,” which, decades before the computer, simply enabled the emergence of radio's planetary extension – podcasts on the internet; and third, radio is a key catalyst in the culture pyramid mediamorphoses of the “post-writing era.” The conclusions emphasize the importance of paying closer attention to the promotion of the benefits of audiobooks in improving the quality of the multimood.
