Study on Carbon Capture Storage and Utilization of Pinctada margaritifera Black Lip Pearl Oyster in French Polynesia | Chapter 3 | Challenging Issues on Environment and Earth Science Vol. 4

In general, trees are used to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Other alternatives should be considered. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) uses iron lime to improve plankton absorption from the ocean floor. Shellfish farming is one method of removing carbon from the atmosphere. Oysters are synonymous with pearl oyster farming in French Polynesia. An unbiased assessment of the shellfish sector would be required to quantify carbon sequestration and generate carbon offsets using this method. MOP (Mother of Pearl) CO2 sinks in pearl oyster shells can be assigned to expensive buttons and objects, as well as powder in poultry farming. A good water circulation from the outside to the inside of the coral atoll can boost photosynthetic productivity, reduce turbidity, increase oyster farming, and, at the very least, carbon storage and sink.
