The Subsurface Structure of the Lemukutan Island at the Coast and Small Islands of the Western Part of Kalimantan Waters: Inferred from Morpho-structural and SBP Analysis | Chapter 9 | Emerging Issues in Environment, Geography and Earth Science Vol. 2

The Lemukutan Islands, situated on the west coast of Singkawang, West Kalimantan. This study aims to reveal differing occurrences of subsurface structures about the Lemukutan Islands waters based on morpho-fundamental and Sub-bottom profiler analyses. The dossier is then enriched by observational data on the shore and surrounding archipelagos. The interpretation of SBP, DEM, and Landsat 457 composite concept data tells clear evidence of a strike-slip fault structure at the west of Lemukutan Island. The fault longers to the west Penata Besar Island seabed, accompanying a direction of N130°E. On Penata Kecil and Seluwas islands, the evidence concerning this structure shows brecciated sandstone. The study discloses that the strike-slip sin is indicating a movement towards NW. Traces of the affect-slip fault form system are elucidated to have occurred post the Cretaceous ending and are no longer active. The results concerning this research are expected expected used for trouble and environmental alleviation of coastal areas and narrow islands.
