Von Willebrand Factor in Thrombo-inflammation and Cardiovascular Pathology | Chapter 3 | Recent Research Advances in Biology Vol. 9

VWF is a large multimeric plasma glycoprotein that connects thrombosis and inflammation. It transports coagulation factor VIII, a component of the intrinsic coagulation pathway, and mediates platelet adhesion and leukocyte recruitment to vascular damage sites. In sepsis, VWF may operate as a link between bacteria and the vessel wall. The presence of ultra-large multimers of VWF in the bloodstream is linked to spontaneous thrombosis, whereas a lack of it causes bleeding. VWF multimer deficiency also disrupts angiogenesis and predisposes to the development of angiodysplasia. The evolution of the heart valve in cardiovascular pathology VWF is a multimeric plasma glycoprotein that bridges the gap between thrombosis and inflammation. It transports coagulation factor VIII, an intrinsic coagulation pathway component, and mediates platelet adhesion and leukocyte recruitment to vascular injury sites. VWF may act as a connection between bacteria and the vessel wall in sepsis. The presence of ultra-large multimers of VWF in the bloodstream is associated with spontaneous thrombosis, while a lack of it is associated with bleeding. Angiogenesis is also disrupted by VWF multimer deficiency, which predisposes to the development of angiodysplasia. The heart valve's evolution in cardiovascular disease inflammatory consequences of cardiovascular disease, as well as potential diagnostic and therapeutic options
