Variations of Pronator Teres(PT) Muscle: A Morphological investigation | Chapter 4 | Recent Research Advances in Biology Vol. 9

The shoulder girdle and elbow muscles work together to appropriately place the hand for manipulative functions. The lateral rotation of forelimbs at joints with the pectoral girdle is one of the many alterations to man's superior extremity that has occurred during evolution. The purpose of this study was to look at the many variations of the Pronator teres (PT) muscle. Because of its close relationship to the median nerve, the study of the Pronator teres muscle is crucial. The study used 60 upper limbs of embalmed adult human cadavers (56 males and 4 females) procured from the Deptt of Anatomy, Govt. Medical College Patiala. In all of the cases, the PT humeral head was discovered, while In 52 (86.7 percent) of the instances, the ulnar head was present. In all of the cases, the humeral head was muscular. In 15 cases (28.84%), the Ulnar origin was muscular, in 7 cases (13.46%), and in 30 cases it was mixed (57.7 percent ). There was a duplicate humeral head in 2 (3%) of cases, with the median nerve flowing between them. There was a high origin of the humeral head of Pronator teres from the medial intermuscular septum in three cases (5 percent). Not only for academic purposes, but also for clinical and functional consequences, anatomy educators and health professionals should be aware of the common variances in forearm muscles and tendons. The median innervation pattern information
