Optimal Adaptation of the Use Conditions of Lateritic Soils in Flexible Pavements from Laboratory to the Construction Site | Chapter 7 | Challenging Issues on Environment and Earth Science Vol. 4

This study is carried out in a dynamic of valorization to appreciate the coarse elements influence of the gravel lateritic soils on the pavement behavior. The material includes not only the 0/20 mm granular particles specified in the specifications and tested in the laboratory, but also all of the material used on construction sites. To meet this challenge, geotechnical characterization relied on five differentiated granular classes with diameters of 0/20, 0/25, 0/31.5, 0/40, and 0/63 mm. The 0/40 mm sample has the best compaction aptitude, while the 0/31.5 mm sample has the highest bearing strength and a good Optimum Moisture Content. The material is usable up to the subbase layer, depending on the requirements and bearing strengths, and its behavior is determined by the texture's grain size.
