Can the Internet Help Relieve Depression? | Chapter 12 | New Horizons in Education and Social Studies Vol. 9

Depression is a major issue in today's culture. It can have a negative impact on people in a variety of ways. Despite the efforts of many scientists to find effective ways to cope with depression, no final conclusions have been reached. This research uses data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) to show that internet usage among older Chinese people (aged 45 and up) helps to alleviate depression symptoms. Combining this finding with China's increasingly increasing smartphone usage, it appears that developing specially designed APPs for older people to use smart phones might aid in the fight against depression in the country.
