Study on Motion Compensated Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave 3D Coherent Imaging Ladar with Scannerless Architecture | Chapter 9 | Newest Updates in Physical Science Research Vol. 3

The extreme sensitivity of long dwell coherent imaging ladar to aim or platform motion is a major challenge. This paper describes a motion compensated frequency modulated continuous wave 3D coherent imaging ladar system that overcomes motion sensitivity, allowing nonstatic targets like human faces to be imaged as well as imaging targets by refractive turbulence. Scannerless imaging and wide range resolution are two main features of this system. With mathematical analysis and demonstration 3D images, the reduced motion sensitivity is demonstrated. Images of static and dynamic targets with millimetre range resolution are presented, demonstrating up to 600 x 800 pixel imaging. Depending on the carrier frequency to waveform bandwidth ratio, motion compensation reduces motion sensitivity by a factor of thousands to tens of thousands.
