The increased demand for health services available to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families highlights the need for health practitioners to adopt emerging technology and improve competencies to use them. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the importance of exploring all options for preserving and expanding care for this population. It became clear that speech language pathologists' (SLPs) clinical training should include the use of telehealth technology in professional practise. Two studies will be discussed in this chapter. The first explores the effect of telepractice in Speech-Language Pathology at various levels of professional education. According to the findings, the majority of students expressed concern and despair about the use of emerging technology in the learning and intervention processes. However, after a short period of time, they believe that both the learning and intervention processes were fruitful and yielded positive outcomes. The second study describes a phase of intervention in which families with children with ASD were given access to various technologies. We conclude that telepractice is an important alternative to speech-language pathologist clinical preparation and service delivery, but it does not replace face-to-face interactions.
