Recent Advancement on Mechanical and Wear Properties of Epoxy Matrix Composite Reinforced with Varying Ratios of Solid Glass Microspheres | Chapter 11 | Newest Updates in Physical Science Research Vol. 2

The aim of this study is to learn more about the mechanical and wear properties of inorganic particle filled polymers. For a long time, the use of polymers, especially epoxy resin, has been extremely important in the engineering field. Mechanical stirring was used to create an epoxy matrix filled with varying ratios of Solid glass microspheres (SGM). SGM weight percentages were varied from 0 to 30, with a 5wt percent stage scale. The impact of SGM particle weight percentage on the composites' bending power, compression strength, and compression modulus was investigated. The composites' wear resistance against an En-32 steel disc , The mass loss for different SGM ratios was measured using a pin-on-disk test rig. Aside from that, the composites' density was assessed. By using a suitable percentage of filler, the composites' mechanical and wear properties were improved. Furthermore, as the percentage of SGM particles in the composites increased, the density increased. By incorporating solid glass microspheres at a reasonable percentage, the epoxy's mechanical and wear properties can be enhanced.
