Assessing the Role of Distributions and Control Charts in Metrology | Chapter 2 | Newest Updates in Physical Science Research Vol. 2

In this paper, we propose a fundamental shift in the current metrology paradigm for measurement data analysis, namely, the rejection of searching for the required Distribution Function (DF) in favour of using nonparametric methods for uncertainty estimation in all cases. We may escape the restricting and unlikely assumptions that often lead to incorrect conclusions this way. We also recommend that Shewhart Control Charts (ShCC) be used to evaluate and track the current state of a measurement system. This method has several advantages and does not necessitate any assumptions about the form of DF.
