An experiment was designed to measure the speed of gravitational signals over short distances in order to investigate their behaviour when travelling through a medium. The experiment uses two sapphire detectors that are suspended in vacuum and cooled to 4.2 K. An ultralow phasenoise microwave signal that uses resonance in the whispering gallery modes is used to measure the detecting device's amplitude. Since sapphire has a relatively high mechanical Q, the detection band should be thin, lowering detection sensitivity. The detector's normal mode frequencies are calculated using a Finite Element Program.
