Massive data is a new force driving global economic and social transformations. The global data collection is reaching a tipping point for substantial technical advances that can bring about new approaches to decision-making, the management of our health, cities, finances, and education. While data complexities are increasing, including data's volume, diversity, velocity, and veracity, large data analytics technologies have the greatest impact on our capacity to discover the 'value' in the data. Massive data analytics poses a grand challenge on the design of highly scalable algorithms and systems to integrate the data and uncover large hidden values from datasets that are diverse, complex, and of a massive scale. Potential innovations include new algorithms, techniques, systems, and applications in massive data analytics that efficiently and effectively uncover useful and concealed knowledge from massive data. This book provides the fundamental concept and tools required to handle the massive data along with a use case.
