Double-Skin Facades: Advantages, Disadvantages, and Design Considerations | Chapter 9 | Techniques and Innovation in Engineering Research Vol. 9

Double-skin facades (DSF) have existed widely used in new building design due to their potential to upgrade energy adeptness and indoor comfort while enhancing esthetics. Despite that, there is an continuous debate about the advantages and disadvantages of DSF on account of the limited chance of reliable data on their real performance. Therefore, this study aims to determine a comprehensive overview of the benefits and disadvantages of DSF orders by reviewing previous studies fact-finding the benefits and limitations of utilizing the DSF system established different parameters, that is to say, the DSF components and types. The results signify that appropriately designed DSF plans can positively impact construction performance and the environment by lowering energy devouring and improving thermal comfort. However, the extreme maintenance and creation costs of DSF systems remain a challenge that needs expected addressed from now on research.
