Iron Deficiency Anaemia in Pregnant Females and Correlation of Red Cell Indices with Serum Ferritin: A Descriptive Approach | Chapter 2 | Research Developments in Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 3

Anaemia in gestation is defined when haemoglobin concentration in minor blood is 11g/dl or less. In underdeveloped countries, the prevalence of anaemia in pregnant women is 51%. Maternal iron deficiency before birth is associated with inadequate burden gain, anaemia, retarded foetal development, low birth weights, still births, preterm transmittal, intra uterine progress retardation, morbidity and humanness rates. As majority of the cases of anaemia is seen in things of low socio business-related status, therefore on account of increased predominance of anaemia in our country, there is a need to find an alternative cost effective arrangement/parameter for early disease of IDA. RDW is a more reliable indicator than some other cell with hemoglobin indices for iron deficiency exceptionally in pregnancy.
