Surgery of Cerebral Ischemia: State of the Art for the Supratentorial Region | Chapter 4 | Current Innovations in Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 4

Internal carotid or middle cerebral artery abrupt blockage results in severe brain edoema and a cancerous, frequently deadly condition. The purpose of this paper is to explore the function of surgical indication in these patients and to evaluate the current understanding of such a severe illness. Decompressive hemicraniectomy is still a viable treatment when done at the right time in carefully chosen individuals because it increases overall survival and has a chance of reducing parenchymal damage surrounding the ischemic core.
