Dengue Virus Infection: Current Perspectives | Chapter 5 | Challenges and Advances in Pharmaceutical Research Vol. 7

Five dengue virus (DENV) serotypes are responsible for the disease dengue fever. It is widespread in more than 128 nations. This illness affects millions of people. However, there is still no particular treatment for it at this time. The ovicidal effectiveness of several of the preventative methods utilising plant extracts against Aedes aegypti was quite promising. Although various vaccinations for dengue fever prevention and antiviral medications for its treatment are now undergoing clinical testing, neither their results nor approval have been announced. To yet, no successful idea has been made to treat dengue disease, despite years of scientific effort. Analgesics and fluid replacement are some common treatments for dengue patients; nevertheless, specialised care is required to combat the fatal effects of dengue fever.
