The Bioactivities of Garcinia xanthochymus for Cosmetics | Chapter 5 | Current Overview on Science and Technology Research Vol. 3

The main enzyme involved in the production of melanin is tyrosinase. Skin tone is influenced by how much melanin melanocyte cells produce. Therefore, chemicals that can inhibit the tyrosinase enzyme's activity are needed by the body's skin. An Indonesian plant called Garcinia xanthochymus contains a lot of quercetin. Alcoholic bark extract can lower LDL cholesterol levels. G. Anti-diabetic effects can be found in xanthochymus xanthones. This investigation's objective was to evaluate G's potential and anti-elastase capabilities. fruit extracts from xanthochymus extracted in methanol and non-hexane. A steady mixture of n-hexane and methanol was macerated into the dried materials. Additionally, a microplate reader 96 well spectrophotometer set to 490 nm and a substrate of 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine, L-DOPA, were used to measure the tyrosinase inhibitory activity of each extract. The findings of the Inhibitory Activity test at a concentration of 100 ppm of each extract were 35.41 11.10% (hexane extract) and 28.83 6.77% (dioxane extract) (methanol extract). extract). The positive control (kojic acid) was inhibited to a percentage of 65.07 at 100 ppm. By reacting the extract with porcine pancreatic elastase enzyme and using the substrate N-Succ-(Ala)-3-p-nitroanilide, the spectrophotometric elastase enzyme inhibition test was carried out (SANA). In order to measure absorbance at a 405 nm wavelength, a microplate reader was employed. Orange peel extract in 100 ppm n-hexane had a 65.17 6.44% enzyme inhibitory activity, compared to a 29.81 10.67% enzyme inhibitory activity in pericarp methanol extract. The inhibitory activity of the enzyme quercetin elastase was also tested as a positive control. The results showed that G. extracts in hexane and methanol were effective. With hexane extract yields greater than methanol extract yields and tyrosinase inhibitory activity half that of kojic acid, xanthochymus pericarp show promise as skin lightening agents. Additionally, the G. extract The n-hexane pericarp of xanthochymus exhibits extraordinarily high activity as an elastase enzyme inhibitor and has the potential to be used as a cosmetic ingredient.
