Territorial Disparities and Health Inequities in Morocco| Book Publisher International

Territorial disparities and health inequities persist and present a significant challenge for governments and policymakers despite the adoption of various initiatives and action plans aimed either directly or indirectly at reducing inequalities in Morocco. In particular, SDG3—"Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages"—and SDG4—"Leave no one behind"—are among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that Morocco is committed to achieving. The nation is heading in this direction toward universal health coverage (UHC), with the goal of providing coverage to the majority of its citizens. However, addressing socioeconomic determinants of health in order to lessen health inequities continues to be a major obstacle. According to a recent study, 23 out of 40 health indicators are linked to serious health injustice, and Morocco's Health Information System (HIS) is currently being developed. This book's first chapter examines the health information system in Morocco, and the remaining three chapters discuss various aspects of health inequities there, highlighting the enormous gaps and large disparities seen in terms of milieu of residence (rural-urban), wealth quintiles, educational attainment, and geographic regions. The comparison is based on important health indicators, such as newborn and maternal death rates, illiteracy rates, individuals with disabilities, teenage pregnancy and childbearing, and others.
