Improvement of Learner Retention for English Online Courses in Center of Foreign Languages, Vietnam | Chapter 05 | Current Research in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 6

Due to the widespread shutdown of schools as a result of the Covid-19 epidemic, online learning has lately grown in popularity. While the number of online students continues to rise, keeping them enrolled in online courses and programmes has proven challenging. The ability of a school to keep students engaged in their studies, accomplish their educational goals, and avoid dropping out is measured by retention rates. This study uses an online survey to evaluate 164 online learners at a foreign language centre with the purpose of discovering effective ways to promote student retention and analysing various reasons why learners drop out of their online studying. The data show that online learning is still a revolutionary trend in education, with positive learner retention rates in most cases. Courses are available online. The survey identified common causes for class attrition, including a hectic job or school schedule, health issues, Internet or energy supply issues, and a lack of suitable engagement in online classrooms. Institutions may swiftly apply the findings to their policies and practises by following the practical recommendations.
